The constant juggling of deadlines, client demands and the sometimes, elusive search for inspiration can leave you feeling overwhelmed and drained. We’ve spoken to Gather Round’s creatives and mined the internet for top tips on how to find headspace in a busy work day. We’re talking practical solutions people because; finding headspace = unlocking creative potential and reclaiming inner calm.

Cultivate Mindful Mornings

As the sun peeks over the horizon/your phone shouts at you to wake up, gift yourself a mindful morning routine. Begin your day with intention; savour that cup of tea, practice yoga or meditation or take a stroll around the local park before work. Each month we host a Member’s Breakfast and gather around the kitchen table to share pastries, fruit and chat. It is the BEST way to start the day.  Just by mixing things up in the AM, you’ll set the tone for the day. You’ll have a solid foundation of tranquillity to navigate the bustling hours ahead.

Practice the Art of Single-Tasking

In today’s hyper-connected world, multitasking is over, enter single-tasking. So instead of spreading your attention across various projects, give yourself permission to immerse fully in one task at a time. Embrace deep work. Shut out distractions. Carve out dedicated blocks of time for focused creativity. By devoting your full attention to one task at a time, you’ll achieve a sense of flow and find your headspace more easily.

Connect with Nature

Instead of sitting like a croissant, hunched over your laptop (just us?) take moments to step outside, breathe in the fresh air and let nature rejuvenate your weary soul. Whether it’s a short walk in Greville Smyth Park or sitting under a tree in Portland Square, both are a stone’s throw from our Cigar Factory and Brunswick Square spaces and are guaranteed to soothe. Take a mindful moment in nature by listening to rustling leaves and birdsong or studying plants and flowers.

Create an Inspiring Workspace

Your environment is crucial to finding headspace. By surrounding yourself with the right objects, colours and people you will be inspired by default. So choose a space with a community that fills your cup and inspires you. Curate a playlist or ambient soundscape to create an atmosphere that either fires you up or chills you out; whatever you need. Craft a workspace that sparks joy and fuels your creativity and the rest will follow.

Embrace Mindful Breaks

Breaks are not a luxury. Repeat: breaks are not a luxury. They are a necessity. A mindful break helps replenish your energy and brings you joy: win. Opt for reading a book over scrolling the socials, doodle instead of reading up on the news or catch up with a friend on the giant Gather Round sofas. Our Campfire talks see members sharing mini workshops or juicy updates over the time it takes to sip a coffee or eat a lunch. Intentional breaks allow your mind to recharge, allowing for greater productivity or peace, whichever makes you feel better.

Mindful Breathing

Take a few minutes to practice mindful breathing exercises throughout the day. Find a quiet spot, sit comfortably, and close those peepers. Focus on your breath as you inhale and exhale slowly. Pay attention to the sensation of the breath entering and leaving your body, allowing yourself to be fully present. Short moments of mindfulness can help calm your mind, release tension and create that sense of headspace when your to-do list is sky-high.

Creativity But Not as you Know it

Mix it up. Spend some time on a creative practice that isn’t your usual jam. Graphic designer? Paint with acrylics. Writer? Try some collage. Web designer? Doodle your way to inner peace. By practising outside of your craft you often unlock a different part of your brain that triggers…that’s right…more creativity. Here at Gather Round, our Drink and Draw and collage evenings have been a hit with GR members.
