Staying Sane in the Age of AI: Why Humanity Is the New Premium
It’s been a week since our first Gather Round: In Conversation in the cosy meeting room at Brunswick Square, and we’ve been blown away by the response. This wasn’t just another industry talk – it felt more like a recalibration, a reminder of what actually matters when everything around us is accelerating, automating and oftentimes, overwhelming.
This was less of a conversation about AI, more than it was about what is it about our work that remains uniquely human, how do we connect with that part of ourselves and harness it to be our superpower.
We set out to capture the magic of our Gather Round Presents events in a more intimate, honest format – and it really delivered. Huge thanks to the brilliant, fearless and funny Raphy Mendoza for leading such a sharp, eye-opening conversation on what AI means for creatives today.
Thanks also to our event sponsor Rhythm 108 for providing our audience with their vegan, gluten free, palm-oil free cookies & biscuits. Safe to say, they went down a treat.
Your Work Is Your Art
One of the most powerful ideas that surfaced was that “your business is the most complete expression of your creativity.” Not a side effect. Not a vehicle for income. But the actual output of your perspective, taste, and way of seeing the world.
Reframing your work in this way really matters, especially in an AI-driven landscape where production is easier than ever. If anyone can generate something quickly, then the differentiator becomes ‘why you made it, how you made it, and what it stands for’.
Raphy described how the ‘mediocre’ work e.g. hotel artworks, phone hold music and other low-touch, mass-produced outputs are exactly the kind of work AI will take over. Making human-led, intentional work even more valuable. This work becoming the artist’s ‘premium’ and something we all, as creatives, need to focus on as we move forwards.
The Rise of the Human Premium
As AI continues to scale efficiency, Raphy went into detail about what people will value more than ever… real experiences, in-person connection, authenticity and handmade, thoughtful work. In other words, humanity becomes the premium.
Don’t get us wrong, this isn’t about rejecting technology, Raphy even discussed how she has fully embraced AI and uses it daily to streamline her processes. This discussion is actually about recognising that the more artificial things become, the more people crave what feels real, intentional, and deeply considered. Lean into this side of your business, your art, and longevity is yours!
Armed with notebooks, questions, frustrations and an openness to engage – we heard from various people in the audience talk about their personal views on AI, what it means for them and how they plan to stay sane amongst it all. It was a room full of mixed emotions, but we left feeling hopeful.
There’s something grounding in returning to what is ours: our perspective, our taste, our values, our way of connecting with others.

Personal branding came up as a natural extension of getting clear on your purpose and vision. It’s not about polishing a persona or chasing visibility, it’s about understanding what you stand for and consistently expressing that through your work. When your purpose is clear, your decisions become sharper: who you work with, what you say yes to, and how you show up. That clarity creates a sense of trust and recognisability. People don’t just engage with what you do, they connect with why you do it. In a landscape shaped by AI, where output is easy to replicate, it’s this depth of perspective, conviction and taste that sets you apart.
What stayed with us most was a sense of reassurance
Not because we walked away with all the answers, but because it became clear that we don’t need to have them. In a moment where so much feels uncertain, fast-moving and out of our control, there’s something grounding in returning to what is ours: our perspective, our taste, our values, our way of connecting with others.
If AI is reshaping how we create, then it’s also pushing us to get sharper on why we create in the first place. This is the perfect opportunity to be more intentional, raise our standards and build work (and communities) that prioritise depth, connection and meaning over speed and scale.
Raphy predominantly works with artists but also creative entrepreneurs to define their personal band and help them better commercialise their work.
