Strike Communications x Pahar Trust Nepal
We’re back with another positive story from members, Strike Communications. Over the last six months, Strike has been working with Bristol-based charity, Pahar Trust Nepal to raise their profile and support their fundraising efforts (more than a little challenging during a pandemic).
The charity builds and refurbishes schools, health centres and other essential buildings in the rural communities of Nepal 2021 and 2021 marks 30 years since the charity’s first school opened in Pokharithok, a tiny village in the Himalayas.
Over this time, PTN has delivered an amazing 250 building projects in 21 districts including renovating 159 schools, which has benefitted more than 40,000 students.
Working in partnership with Bristol-based, Karen White Communications, Strike has created ’30 For 30’, a 12-month campaign intended to raise a minimum of £50,000 to help 30 schools in Nepal improve teaching provision and facilities for pre-primary school children.
The campaign intends to drive economic growth by giving mothers and care-givers the opportunity to work and increase their earnings as well as supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal to ensure all children have access to quality early childhood development. Research shows that children who attend pre-primary education are more likely to stay in school and have more successful outcomes as adults.
The charity’s limited budget and resources inspired a campaign led by a mix of media relations and social media. Several prominent campaign ambassadors are on board to help amplify the message including Bristol-born Professor Alice Roberts and author and photographer Levison Wood.
30 for 30 will run for the whole of 2021 with three campaign activities planned to get people involved, even during lockdown if needed. Freestyle February is up first, a fun initiative which invites people to do 30 things of their choice that month – from running 30km a week and hosting a 30min Laughter Yoga session on Zoom to selling 30 ceramic pots – the ideas are coming in thick and fast. In April we’re organising a Nepali Night In, giving supporters the chance to join in with a Nepali feast at home as well as a Tiffin Day later in the summer.
PTN Executive Director Alan Sweetman said: “This is an incredibly challenging time to be fundraising, but it is more important than ever. The rural communities in Nepal have been severely impacted by Covid-19 and it’s vital that our work continues to make sure children get the good education they deserve. We’re delighted with the 30 For 30 campaign, which gives us clear goals and messages. The response so far has been fantastic and we can’t wait to watch it build over the coming months.”
Within two weeks of the campaign launching, £10,000 was raised towards the target, and fundraising activities have been pledged from far-flung places such as Germany, Australia and Nepal.
