Meet The Members

01/30/25

It’s the members that make Gather Round a buzzing, vibrant community and this month, we’re bringing back our ‘Meet the members’ series. For each post, we’ll ask one of our members to share a bit about themselves, think of it like a ice breaker, without the awkward small talk.

First up in 2025, the much loved Flexi Plus member Peter Hose – copywriter by day and stand up comedian by night. Peter fast became part of the furniture soon after he joined in late 2023. From the opening night of his comedy show he had a Gather Round fan club supporting him in full force. He always has good chat and you can pretty much guarantee he’ll make you laugh if you happen to be around the table with him at lunch!

What do you do for a living?

I have two jobs: during the day I’m a freelance copywriter and in the evening I’m a stand-up comedian. As a copywriter I help clients to meaningfully engage with their customers through language. I specialise in developing Tone of Voice (TOV) guides, messaging frameworks, website copy and speeches. How a business speaks helps customers to determine if a brand feels right for them. I craft strong, distinctive voices for brands, so they can develop more meaningful relationships with their customers.

As a stand-up comedian, I travel across the UK telling jokes and sharing funny stories. Being a comedian shares many similarities with copywriting. Both are focused on communicating directly with audiences, who give feedback in return (often brutally with comedy). The difference is comedy is about helping people to laugh, rather than selling a product.

What projects are you currently working on?

Like most creatives, I work on several projects simultaneously. I’m currently developing my comedy show ‘Love & Laugh’, which is all about dating and relationships. Whether you’re single or married, we can often face romantic challenges. I use comedy to tackle these issues in a warm and inclusive environment. ‘Love & Laugh’ will feature at the Leicester Comedy Festival in February and the Brighton Fringe in May. You can find out more on Instagram.

How is your industry changing?

Like all creative disciplines, copywriting is going through major changes. You often hear that AI is taking more writing jobs, but I believe this is only partially true. How people consume content is changing, which is forcing the creative industries to evolve. A decade ago people read lots of online articles, but now most people prefer to watch videos or listen to podcasts on their phone. Copywriting must adapt if it’s to remain relevant to audiences.

In my own business, I’m shifting my focus away from “traditional” digital copywriting to language-centric video content creation. In other words, I want to create videos where the language is visually appealing. I’m also interested in developing podcast services for clients. I will always be some type of writer, but how this is packaged will change with the times.

What made you choose Gather Round?

When I moved to Bristol in 2023, I wanted to immerse myself in the local creative community. Gather Round is full of talented people, working in a wide range of disciplines and industries. Everyone is friendly and supportive, which inspires me to try new things.
