This week we talk binge-worthy podcasts, Nic’s favourite camera, and what an average day looks like in the life of a freelance photographer.
Can you tell us what you do and what an average workday looks like?
I’m a photographer and director, creating work for lifestyle, fashion, music, travel, and commercial brands.
I’m not sure if I have an average workday, there’s lots of variety.
Last week I went to Snowdonia for a lifestyle fashion shoot and to London for a shoot about basketball culture.
This week I’ve been in Gather Round and these days are usually focused around post-production – editing stills or working on a moving image edit. Or on pre-production, creating treatments, and planning projects.
Anything you’re working on at the moment that’s exciting you?
I’ve just completed a short film for Sia Taylor studio, it’s focused around the jewellery designer’s process of making, inspiration and the Somerset studio. A gentle piece with a sensory, almost meditative, tone.
Also, had a great photography shoot for Footlocker, as part of their campaign helping basketball culture in Europe thrive.
What kit/tools can you not live without?
My Canon 5d’s. I love my film cameras – Hasselblad 500C and a couple of canon 35mm cameras. But it’s the 5d that I shoot the majority of my photography commissions with.
What are you listening to/watching at the moment?
I love listening to Sault! As I’m writing this, they’ve just released a new album. I’m yet to listen.
Working Not Working podcast, Overshare, is something I’ve enjoyed a couple of episodes of recently and I binge listened to all of Serial’s Nice White Parents on a drive last week!
Watching wise… Absolutely loved Devs, I really like Alex Garland’s work. And I’m aiming to use my Mubi account more! Pedro Almodovar’s Bad Education was a recent watch on Mubi.
I love collaboration and seeing how the dynamics between individuals play out collectively and creatively.

Do you have a favourite artist/photographer, someone who really inspires you? What do you love about their work?
I love Sophie Ebrard’s work – Intimate and beautiful, it feels intuitive, authentic. Great subject matter too!
Love the tone and pace of Maceo Frost’s work.
And I recently discovered Elena Parasco – I really like the way she’s capturing female athletes and the energy of her work.
Do you have a favourite colour?
Hmmm, maybe a favourite gradient… clear sky at dusk!
What made you choose Gather Round?
Community, proximity and it’s a wonderful space! I love working in Gather Round!
