Noughts & Ones have a big old heart. Planet and people first, everything else; later. They work with sustainable brands creating top-notch e-commerce websites that are kind to the planet and good for the soul. You’ll find them at Brunswick Square with team mascot Winston the golden retriever. With over 46 awards under their belt, this agency is small but mighty.
We caught up with Creative Director Tom Locke at Brunswick Sq, where Noughts & Ones have been members since October 2021. We chatted about how remote working has transformed his team’s work-life balance, his love of noughties pop-punk and partnering with sustainable e-commerce brands that they believe in.
Can you tell us what you do and what an average work day looks like?
We’re an e-commerce agency partnering with planet-conscious brands. We design and build custom Shopify stores using our Conscious Development™ framework to help good brands sell more products in the right way. Our days vary, depending on what projects we’re working on, but a typical day starts with a team stand-up meeting to check on the previous day’s progress and discuss the day ahead. We then break away to get our heads down, but tend to work really collaboratively as a team so there’s plenty of “can we quickly jump into your meeting room” to help each other out.
What are you listening to/watching at the moment?
Although I’ll listen to most things, my main musical taste is very much stuck in late 2000’s pop-punk. If you see me bobbing with headphones on, chances are I’m listening to something like A Day To Remember, Four Year Strong or Set Your Goals.
What excites you most about the creative process?
The shared excitement between the whole team and client when a new project kicks off. We strive to partner with ecommerce brands that we truly believe in and there’s something really special about all being in a room together (albeit virtually at the moment) and sharing ideas.
What kit/tools can you not live without?
MacBook and headphones. No question.
Anything you’re working on at the moment that’s exciting you?
We have just started working with a couple of awesome sustainable ecommerce brands – one foodie and one health and beauty. Both are perfectly aligned with what we’re all about as an agency, so we’re crazy excited to get cracking!
Where is your favourite place to eat in Bristol?
When the whole team is in we’re partial to Sandwich Sandwich for lunch. If there are post-work beers on the cards, we’re gonna be hitting up Wing’s Diner at Small Bar.
Why did you choose to come to Gather Round?
It’s actually a bit of a “full-circle” story. We knew Ben and Jason, the founders of Gather Round, as we actually rented a space from their other company Fiasco Design years ago. We’d been following the journey of the Cigar Factory in Southville. When the pandemic hit we weren’t able to continue in the studio and when we caught wind of a second space opening up, we made sure that we were at the front of the queue! We’re so fortunate to be a part of the Brunswick Square family, not only is it absolutely stunning and the people lovely, but it’s perfectly located for the whole team.
Thanks for the catch-up Tom! Check out the amazing work Noughts & Ones do here and don’t forget to give them a follow on Instagram.
You can also join us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to get to know all things Gather Round and meet more of our creative members.
With a thriving and active community of like-minded individuals, we’re more than just a place to work. Don’t just take our word for it, come and have a look around
